After a lovely Sunday afternoon chat with Chip Coffey Psychic and Medium of A&E’s Paranormal State and Psychic Kids, I was prepared to write the story of the man Behind the Icon but it didn’t come without a few paranormal glitches of its own.
While writing the first draft of this story the computer screen completely froze. There were numerous documents and windows open including the Chip Coffey story. Suddenly, strange beeping noises came out of the computer and the screen blinked, went blank then appeared to be fine – except that the article had completely disappeared. There was not a trace of it to be found on my computer, leaving me a little bewildered.
This occurrence was reminiscent of Coffey’s previous visit to Edmonton in the fall of 2009 to the Myer Horowitz theatre. While about to show a demonic video, the smell of smoke could be detected in the room and alarms rang out throughout the theatre causing the night to end abruptly while the audience evacuated the building.
“That was too coincidental to be a coincidence,” says Coffey. “It was just freaky.”
Regardless, Chip’s ready to be back! He wanted to come back to Canada so much that he admittedly set up Mike Anderson of Trixstar Productions. Using social media to his advantage, he posted a tweet on Twitter that said, “If you want me to come to Canada let @Trixstar Mike know where you want me to appear.” And so it began, with thousands of responses creating the 10 day whirlwind “Tour That Twitter Built”.
If you follow Chip on Twitter or Facebook it’s easy to see that he’s got a strong following of fans which boasts of celebrity friends such as Mandy Moore, Jordan Sparks, and All My Children’s Ricky Paull Goldin. Yet he still sees himself as the young boy from Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’m still the same old Chip I’ve always been”, he says. He is very gracious and grateful to his fans and takes nothing for granted.
Although, a very humble man he understands the magic of his celebrity status and only uses it to benefit causes that are close to his heart – hospice care for seniors and assisting in finding rescue animals a home. Even though he is highly allergic to dogs, he provides a loving home for four of his own and one cat, which have all been rescued by him.
When one of his dogs, Molly underwent over 22 radiation treatments for cancer on her foot, she was unable to continue up the stairs to the bed in which she slept in with Chip and the other animals. Without hesitation, Chip moved his bedroom to be downstairs with Molly until she was well again.
Coffey’s emotion is moving when he says, “I have five amazing souls living in this house with me.”
A very gifted psychic and medium he also marries his talents with a psychology background as a complimentary modality. He’s more aware of the impact of the message he has to deliver and is more sensitive to people. Understanding the desire for some people to have answers, he will not be a crutch nor foster dependence but instead may offer a little peace of mind.
“The message comes THROUGH me, not TO me. I’m a messenger, a conduit if you will.” says Coffey. “In that moment there is less of me and more of Spirit”.
Although these abilities are what this paranormal icon is recognized for, they are not what define who he is. The great grandson of famed Medicine Woman Minnie Sue Morrow Foster, son of a sailor and an eccentric and brilliant mother, Chip is deeply spiritual, gracious, and witty. He has a profound love for animals, compassion toward people and intrigue for the mysterious.
Chip Coffey is immersed in many phenomenons from hauntings, exorcisms and communicating with the deceased. But the one mystery that he jokes has him puzzled is donair meat.
“What IS donair meat?” Coffey asks with sarcastic humor.
Well, maybe that’s one investigation that will have to be discovered upon his return to Canada for the Coffey Talk tour in May.
